As president of EMI Mexico, Camilo Lara is an obsessive music collector who in 2004 decided that, as a side project, he would remix his friends’ songs and perform as the Mexican Institute of Sound. A self-proclaimed antidote to the contemporary dramatic images presented of Mexico in film especially, M.I.S is characterized by a fusion of upbeat electronica, Mexican music samples spanning across the 20th century, and spoken word samples. The success of his three full-length albums has taken Lara around the world to collaborate with numerous renowned artists and to perform at various festivals such as the 2010 edition of the Danish Roskilde festival, Bonnaroo, and the upcoming Lollapalooza.
