Through their fast paced, ska rock and politicized lyrics, Mexico City’s Maldita Vecindad has garnered a devout fan base throughout Latin America that can quickly attest to the groundbreaking effect the band had on the Latin alternative music scene in the late ’80s. Their sharp lyrics packed with social critique riled up the Latin American youth who particularly identified with the group’s middle class anxieties and critique of Mexican society. Their songs, such as “Pachuco,” have undoubtedly become anthems of the early rock en español movement and are a surefire ways to get mosh pits going when necessary. Currently comprised of Roco, Pato, Aldo, and Sax, Maldita Vecindad released Circular Colectivo in 2010, after a ten-year hiatus.
