Jumbo

Jumbo is a Mexican band from Monterrey that gained popularity during the ’90s as part of the “Avanzada regiomontana” alternative music movement along with bands such as Control Machete, Plastilina Mosh, Kinky and many others.  Jumbo was born from an underground musical project called “Blueswagen”, which played mainly covers of bands like The Beatles, The Doors, Pink Floyd, R.E.M., U2, The Police, Stone Temple Pilots and Red Hot Chili Peppers in bars and clubs. The band started gaining fans and recording demos until BMG got interested in them.

By the time the band changed its name to Jumbo in 1997 it had five members:  Enrique Gonzalez Jr.,  Clemente Castillo (vocals, guitar), Flip (guitar), Charly (bass) and Eddy (keyboards and vocals). That year Jumbo recorded their first album, Restaurant, and after that D.D. y Ponle Play in 2001, Teleparque in 2003 and Gran Panoramico in 2005. That same year brothers Eddy and Enrique left the band. With the two brother’s departure, Jumbo lost much of its distinctive brit-rock sound but still released two more albums: Superficie (2007) and Alamo. Canciónes en Madera. Vol 1 (2009).
