Juan Son

Call him experimental, alternative, or plain weird, but Juan Son has established himself as one of Mexico’s quirkiest and most talented musical offsprings in the contemporary music scene. Born Juan Carlos Pereda, he first hit success as the vocalist of the indie band Porter, but once that creative relationship ended he went solo using the pseudonym Juan Son. His first album, Mermaid Sashimi, garnered a Grammy nomination in 2009 for his first single “Nada,” and his incantations, chants, and surreal bilingual storytelling impressed listeners worldwide. Having opened for Sigur Ros, handpicked by The Breeders to participate at All Tomorrow’s Parties and drawing comparisons to the one and only Bjork, Juan Son prevails as one of the more talented and promising artists from Latin America.
