Née Pablo Díaz-Reixa, El Guincho’s debut album ‘Alegranza!’ garnered praise and accolades from music critics worldwide in 2008. His use of diverse rhythms – including but not limited to dub, tropicalia, afrobeat, doowop – and his seamless sampling impressed listeners and established him as one of the most talented Latin American artists. Based in Barcelona but born in the Canary Islands, El Guincho’s current experiments include the series of Piratas de Sudamerica EPs, where he reinterprets obscure South American songs, and the release of his sophomore full-length album ‘Pop Negro’, due out in the fall.
