In case you didn’t know, Nairobi is the current top purveyor of South American dub music. Based in Argentina’s capital and borrowing their name from Kenya’s capital, this globe-trotting band has perfected the art of Jamaican dub and in record time achieved international recognition thanks in part to their collaborations with top-notch artists of the genre like Mad Professor and Lee Scratch Perry.
Wax is the title of their third LP, to be released any time now through Buenos Aires indie label Estamos Felices and available digitally world-wide (the title suggests some vinyl might be available too, as in their debut, but this isn’t confirmed yet). “Gerli Hood” is the first single off that upcoming release and you can get it, for a limited time, as a free download exclusively for Remezcla readers. It’s an ode to getting high with vocals provided by guest Chilean rappers Tea Time (of funk legends Los Tetas) and Jamez Manuel of Zonora Point (who are not at all neofites in this topic, as you might remember).
Keep an eye open (or at least try, if you’re too high after listening to this one) for the full album that also includes collaborations with UK’s Tippa Irie, Gambia’s Dbro and Argentina’s Catnapp and Las Kellies.
