Your Mix Fix: Cherman

JUANThe word mixtape has plenty of different interpretations. It used to be that mixtapes were actually DJ sets recorded on cassette tapes, but with the coming of the digital music age, the name remained the same, but the definition expanded. Nowadays, people call mixtapes many different things, some of which are not necessarily mixed and most of which were never taped. Here we try to cover them all. In this column, Juan Data gives you a worthy one every week.

DJ: Cherman cherman

MIXTAPE: Virulaser

The moombahton fever is, apparently, here to stay. Here we have a recent moombah-todo mixtape (as appropriately labeled by Cherman himself) covering pretty much all the different subgenres emanated from moombahton, some still connected to the Latin roots, many others, not at all.

It opens up in chill-mode with a classic Brazilian tune, but soon thing get a lot crazier with plenty of heavy bass and hard hitting beats to ignite the dance-floor — there’s no way back from there. But there’re some very welcomed surprises, like the moombah remix of the Chespirito theme tune.

Cherman, for those who don’t know him, is a Barcelona resident of Argentine roots who’s also one of the figures behind the ñu-cumbia & mashup net-label Cabeza. He’s also a founding member of the international electrópical collective Folcore that includes many DJs and producers that we have featured in the past on this same column.
