Sound Culture presents 4-time Grammy Nominees Plena Libre, along with Chicago Afro-Puerto Rican Ensemble, at Mayne Stage on Sunday Aug. 26th.
Plena Libre are Puerto Rico’s hard–grooving purveyors of deep traditions retooled for the dancefloor, with rich Afro–Rican voices that mix Latin grit and brass. Balancing muscular energy and sophisticated arrangements, leader Gary Nuñez and company have honed their explorations of Puerto Rico’s African heritage and Caribbean connections over 18 years of performing.
CAPRE, Chicago’s first Afro-Puerto Rican Ensemble, will open.
