Mexican acoustic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela continues to break boundaries as they’re set to make their first feature film soundtrack appearance. As we reported, Hans Zimmer (“Inception,” The Dark Knight,” “Gladiator”) invited the duo to contribute music for the soundtrack to the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie, On Stranger Tides.
“The Pirate That Should Not Be” is one of five tracks they contributed to the soundtrack. Zimmer’s touch shines throughout the song in all the right places as R & G’s six-string bravado takes on a new dimension thanks to the orchestra backing their metal-flamenco rhythm. The mood of the song matches aspects that the series has become famous for: adventure, danger, and suspense. There’s a nod to fans of the film series midway as the duo perform a portion of the film series’ main theme.
Listen to the track over at KCRW and be sure to catch Rodrigo y Gabriela perform the song with a 10-piece orchestra this Friday the 13th on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
