Free Download: Chikita Violenta's "All I Need's a Little More"

Everything you hear in “All I Need’s a Little More” is environment. It’s floor boards from an old church in Canada, it’s members of Chikita Violenta chanting, clapping, and looping beats unexpectedly. It’s the anthem of Chikita Violenta’s newest album TRE3S, recorded at Broken Social Scene’s David Newfeld’s renovated church studio in Ontario.

TRE3S is a name that means many things for the Mexican band: it’s their third LP, it took them three years in between albums, they made three trips from Mexico to Canada to record TRE3S, and when they first landed in Ontario, the band set about planting around 14 pine trees with Newfeld. You know, just ’cause. So the album seemed destined, bound by number and nature. TRE3S is Chikita Violenta’s second time working with Newfeld–he also produced The Stars and Suns Sessions–and is, in the words of bassist Armando Ortigosa and guitarist Andrés Velasco, “más Chikita Violenta” than Stars and Suns.

Chikita Violenta is perhaps one of the most talented in the Mexican string of bands. Their sound isn’t pinpointed to one region, instead it’s isolated within its own evolution, its own musical aggression. Now the Chikita guys are tied to the road, touring with Boise’s Built to Spill (a group Chikita Violenta has admired since pre pubescence) and later with Syracuse string-indie band Ra Ra Riot, hopefully headed to spread their sound to a potential new fan base. Who knows, maybe a kid in Dewey Beach, Delaware, will wise up to the Chikita Violenta wave.

See below for tour dates and stops. In the meantime, download the track below for FREE and savor Chikita Violenta’s “All I Need’s a Little More,” “un sabor especial” in the band’s current cookbook.
